Overall Comments
The exterior is in reasonably good condition. Front end shows some wear/fading. Headlights are slightly foggy/hazy. Minor scuffs, scrapes, dings and dents but no major damage observed. No evidence of poor quality previous repairs. Please see pictures/video for more information.
AC blows warm + compressor is abnormally loud. Otherwise all tested features appear to be functioning normally.
No warning lights illuminated. No fault codes showing in the onboard computer. Passenger front CV boot leaking heavily; CV joint appears to be ok. Minor residue/buildup around the transmission drain plug observed. Oil sweat/minor leak seen on passenger-side front of engine in two places (appears to be oil filter housing + timing chain cover). Brake fluid has debris buildup on screen and should be flushed. Oil level is low. Otherwise all fluids appear to be in good condition and at the appropriate levels. Tires have approx. 80% tread life remaining. Brake pads have approx. 50% front and 25% rear life remaining. Exhaust very rusty in spots and leaking near the passenger side muffler.
The idle is slightly louder than normal (possibly due to low oil level). The E-Brake holds but is not strong. Otherwise the vehicle starts, accelerates, handles and stops well. The transmission is smooth. The clutch engages normally and holds. No other issues to note.
Overall this 2012 Subaru Forester appears to be in moderately rough condition for its age and odometer. It appears to be have been reasonably well taken care of but does have some issues and regular maintenance that need to be addressed.
Recommendations:
- top up oil (immediately)
- diagnose repair AC (minimum approx. $500 but potentially more)
- repair passenger side CV boot and clean area (approx. $250-$400)
- diagnose/repair oil sweat(s)/minor leak(s)
- check for transmission leak around drain plug and repair if necessary
- complete brake fluid flush (approx. $170)
- replace rear brake pads + rotors + e-brake in 2-4 months (approx. $500-$650)
- repair exhaust leak OR replace cat-back exhaust (approx. $400-$800)
- cosmetic repairs as desired
